Even in its early stages, though, the remake looks very impressive. This means that we'll see original assets replace roads and building textures in the months to come. Novozhilov stated earlier that he won't be taking the easy route with AI texture upscaling.

In its current state, 2Unreal4Underground uses assets from the 2003 PC game, with work ongoing to enhance models and up-res textures. Though there's no clear ETA for the remake, Novozhilov has apparently been working on it for over half a year now. The remake, titled 2Unreal4Underground brings the 2003-era title to the current-gen with enhanced lighting, high-res textures, and a host of Unreal Engine 4 features, including global illumination and volumetrics.

The license plate design will be mostly the same, albeit with the "Need for Speed" text being replaced by "Bayview". At stock, all cars will be fitted with front license plates (just like real-life California) but you may have the option to take them off, place them on the corner of the bumper, or behind the windshield.
License plates may also be customized, but inappropriate words aren't allowed (obviously enough). Additionally, Bayview may be expanded with an eastern desert area (however, it would also need to be connected with Jackson Heights) as seen here, as well as fully open roads in the City Core area, thus making Bayview easier to explore.

If they added more grocery getters (including cut cars), visual damage similar to Hot Pursuit 2, full interior customization, no rubberbanding, cops (they will chase you in free roam, and occasionally in races, usually Sprint races and Outrun races), made Caleb much tougher to beat, got rid of the pacing issues, and didn't make you rice your car to get DVD and magazine covers. Release year: 2004 (2005 for the Sha_Do release)
